AT INTERNATIONAL MUSIC AWARDS
[Worcester,
Mass., November 10, 2004] -- It has been called "the Grammy awards
for the rest of us", an annual international competition for indie
musicians which culminates in a grand ceremony every fall in Los Angeles.
It is the juggernaut known as the Just Plain Folks Awards ( www.JPFolks.org) ,
and this November 7, Massachusetts funnyband FIG was awarded the JPF " Best
Novelty/Comedy CD " for its album, Monkey Bismuth. The
mysterious studio band, headed by award-winning Worcester-based writer/filmmaker/very
strange individual Robert Newton, recorded the 13-song collection of
song parodies and original tunes as a "testament to the perpetual
delay of full adulthood" and not the "completion of unspecified
work release requirements" as previously rumored in the tabloids. "It's an honor just to be nominated," said Newton, during his sleepless, 3-day, celebratory Dr. Pepper and Marshmallow Peeps bender, "but it's an even bigger honor to win." He then proceeded to howl incessantly as he gave himself over to some sort of continuous full-body spasm, which he later explained was his Special Victory Dance.
